Davenport Harriers Cross Country

Wood, Young, and Sudlow 7th and 8th Graders
The Davenport Community School District is proud to announce the fourth year of cross country at the intermediate school level! This program is designed to get students interested in running, learn about cross country before the high school level, and have fun. There are two Davenport teams. Wood, Young, and Sudlow will combine to make the Davenport Harriers cross country team, while Smart, Walcott and Williams will be the Davenport Flyers.
Who is eligible: Boys and girls in 7th and 8th grade at Wood, Young, and Sudlow are eligible. Parochial schools are also invited to participate. All participants must have current physicals on file with their school’s athletic director. Students also must be in good academic standing as determined by their school.
Practice: Practice will be at Davenport North High School from around 4:30 to 5:45. Practices will be held Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Practices will not be held on Wednesday. Practice begins Monday August 15th.
Transportation: Bus transportation will be provided from each school to North. Have your students listen to announcements for the time they will be picked up after school. Transportation home must be provided by parents or guardians.
Equipment needs: All participants will need a pair of running shoes. Running Wild gives student athletes a discount. Otherwise shoes can be bought at most stores. Shorts that do not go below the knees are recommended.
Meets: There will be 6-7 meets in September and October. Meets are generally on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Race distance is 2 miles. Meets will mostly be in the Quad Cities area. An information sheet about the meets with directions and times is always provided before each meet. A schedule is attached.
