Does everyone make the team?
There is a limited number of roster position for each age group. Not all players will be guaranteed a roster position. The number of teams for each age will be determined by the available coaches and the player interest at that age level. Each year we will assemble a selection committee to participate in team tryouts. This committee will be responsible for making the team selections. The selection committee will consist of the head coaches of the teams along with the other individuals assigned to the committee by the baseball program. All players are encouraged to participate in their local Little League.
Does Davenport North High School offer any Support?
Yes. The Davenport North Baseball Coaching Staff will be providing a mentor program for the athletes by utilizing the high school athletes. This program is designed to encourage interaction between the high school athletes and our athletes in order to develop a strong bond between the programs.
What is the Commitment to our Players?
The baseball program commits to all athletes in the program the opportunity to participate in a competitive environment under the direction of quality coaching while getting intense fundamental training in order to compete at the highest level through their high school career. We also commit to all families in the baseball program that the highest standard of family values will be maintained and practiced by the leadership of the program.
What is the Commitment of Each Family?
Participation in the baseball program requires a dedicated effort by the athlete and family to make significant time commitments relative to practices and games as well as a financial commitment. In addition, philosophies are established by the coaches and leadership of the program with the best interest of the athlete and team in mind. The philosophies require support by the family in order to maintain a positive environment for the program.
What is the cost of the Program?
The initial team fees will be $150. Other expenses will be incured. These costs may include tournament entry fees, league membership fees and uniform costs. Our goal will be to keep all expenses as low as possible. As we move forward with our program, each team will rely on fundraiser events to cover the expense of our winter workout program, tournaments and uniform expenses. However, since this is the first year of our program, each family should expect the following start-up expenses:
Each team will have a parents meeting at the start of the season to discuss the uniform expense, as well as the number of tournaments that will be played. Tournaments will be played locally, requiring no overnight stay. Teams may elect to participate in out-of-town tournaments. However, all out-of-town tournaments will be a “team” decision, and discussed at a parents meeting. In these very rare instances, travel expenses such as hotel, meals, etc. associated with these tournaments will be the individual responsibility of each family. Coaches understand our program is designed to offer your son the opportunity to play in competitive events, at the lowest cost possible.
Will Teams be required to participate in Fund raising Events?
Yes. Our goal is to provide a program, at the lowest cost possible. Each family will be required to participate in our fund raising events. Monies collected from these events will go to offset the cost of the program. We will offer both individual player fund raising opportunities, as well as “team” fund raising events. It will certainly be possible for your son to earn enough monies to cover the expense of our program.
